Rollercoasterrrrr in the interior of Suriname

Ready to dive into the rollercoaster ride that’s been our project journey? Buckle up, it’s been a wild one!

So, let’s rewind to the last newsletter where we had to deal with a local contractor who wasn’t capable of making a budget plan. Long story short, we had to let him go. But guess what? We found a new contractor.

We had this project goal of finishing our dream workspace for the women of Drepada in just three months. Technically, it could’ve been done in 1.5 months. I repeat, technically…

A quick side note. This whole thing started in 2021/2022 when we sent out the business plan to our contractor and the deal was sealed at the beginning of 2023.

The start of 2023 was like a rocky boat. The deal was sealed, but nothing seemed to be happening. The place where the workspace should come had to be cleaned out first. We asked the help of the community and at first nobody seemed to feel the need to help but with the help of the captain of the village things started moving. Unfortunately another delay was around the corner.

The money to buy our first stones and wood got stuck due to langabere ?policy. To transfer the money several signatures were required but the people happened to be out of office.

By the end January things started moving again. This time the money transfer was successfully and the contractor was able to order the materials.

But don’t lose hope! By the end of January, we broke free from that money transfer maze, and our contractor finally ordered the materials. The wind was back in our sails, and we were ready to rock and roll. Or so we thought…

Enter the rainy season, hitting pause on our progress once again. Mother Nature clearly had a sense of humor. After the skies cleared up, our contractor channeled their inner Bob the Builder and worked their magic. A little palace began to sprout amidst the jungle.

The whole village couldn’t help but notice the progress, and even our beloved investor couldn’t contain their excitement. And then… the contractor decided to call it quits on building!

So, there you have it. Our project journey, filled with twists, turns, and a few unexpected rain showers. But we’re not giving up! Stay tuned for the next chapter in our adventure, because we’re not backing down. We’re in this for the long haul, and we’re determined to make it happen!
